Exploring the invisible: Emerging Technologies kick-off
Today marked the beginning of the two-day module Emerging Technologies – AI & IoT, led by Prof. Alessandro Redondi. The first part of the day focused on demystifying the Internet of Things, guiding students through the foundational building blocks of IoT systems: connected objects, data flows, and communication protocols.
By introducing concrete use cases and real-life examples, the lecture provided service designers with the tools to begin understanding how IoT can support and enhance service experiences. From short-range technologies to cloud-based data systems, students explored the infrastructures that enable invisible but impactful digital interactions.
In the second part of the day, the class got hands-on: working in teams, they experimented with connectivity models and mapped out how IoT can be embedded within service ecosystems – an essential step for bridging tech and human-centered design.
