Knocking on the door of the working world

Who am I and how do I communicate this with the CV? It’s time to answer this question.

The students of this edition are now approaching the turning point of their curricular teaching activities. Thus, now is the moment to reflect on their Curriculum Vitae. Reasoning about the CV is not just a matter of summarizing and reporting on what has been done previously, but it allows students to reflect on who they are and what they would like to be and do in the future. This means projecting themselves into tomorrow’s reality and thinking about their next direction.

They had the opportunity to participate in two useful inspirational meetings, thanks to the experience of Caterina Tavani, a career executive coach who has been accompanying the growing path of POLI.design students for years, adapting to contemporary needs. First of all, the extra module was structured in two sessions, the first covered the conceptual framework for career success, while the second day presented a focus on solutions and self-awareness.

Precisely, the students were asked to question themselves about their willingness, in order to create a professional vision and set career goals. Then, they needed to recognize and map their value, with the purpose of defining what they can offer to the reality to which they are applying. Subsequently, it was the moment to lay out an entrepreneurial idea and design an action plan. What’s more, Caterina Tavani has previously analyzed the CVs handed in for the Master’s course recruitment, and, then, she gave students feedback during the first day, and additional time to work on revising, in order to receive new feedback on a new version during the second appointment. The second encounter featured communication skills, and trained elevator pitches, with the goal of having clear ideas on how to present themselves in the marketplace. In addition, students tried their hand at interview practice, with the opportunity to ask questions to an experienced HR: Laura D’amico. Finally, students were provided with a toolbox and some secret ingredients on how to behave during interviews. The day ended with an overview of the job search methods, digital recruitments, and different inspirational examples.

Now, for our students, is the time to design a CV that lets their essence shine through, to mark the path they want to take, to breathe, and to jump into the world of work.
