Diving into Service Design Basics

Francesca Foglieni and Beatrice Villari kick off the first module of the X edition with an introduction to Service Design Basics. 

This class was the introductory module of the Master program which provided students with theory and key concepts of service design, service innovation, and the related design process. The class included a mix of lectures, discussions and exercises to give students an overview of the subject matter. 

Students learned about the definition of service and the various elements and processes that make up a service. They also covered the shift towards a Service Economy and the service-dominant logic. Additionally, students were introduced to different dimensions and paradigms of service innovation, and learned about the history of service design.

The class also covered the principles of service design and design thinking. Lastly, the class discussed multidisciplinary contributions to the field of service design, highlighting the importance of different perspectives in the design process. Overall, this class gave students a comprehensive understanding of the topic and what it means to be a Service Designer and prepared them for the following modules in the program.
