THE WAU CITY: Two Weeks, Many Insights

That’s a wrap! “THE WAU CITY – Designing civic participation rituals to enable virtuous loops” has officially come to an end, closing two intense weeks of research, co-design, and strategic thinking. 

Guided by Chiara Monteleone and Lesley Ann Culla, our MSD13 students took a deep dive into the WAU! Milano ecosystem. Moving from field research to final concept development, they translated complex insights into future-oriented service design proposals.

Their goal? Transforming spontaneous volunteering into sustainable, lifelong community engagement. The final presentations showcased innovative ideas and scalable tools designed to bridge generational gaps, lower participation barriers, and foster long-term active citizenship across Milan’s urban communities. 

A huge thank you to the whole WAU! Milano team for opening their doors, sharing their invaluable experience, and inspiring our students throughout this journey. 
We can’t wait to see how these systemic design solutions will inspire new ways of caring for our cities, foster civic participation and nurturing resilient urban communities.
